Rently has secured USD 12 million in debt financing, bringing its rental payment model into focus for Hong Kong tenants, property businesses and financial technology partners. The platform combines rental deposit instalments with opportunities to earn rewards on rent, including payments through the Faster Payment System (FPS) and credit cards.

The financing comes as Rently operates across Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. According to the company, it has processed over USD 50 million in rent across its markets this year. Those group figures provide context for its regional operations, rather than a measure of Hong Kong adoption alone.

Splitting rental deposits into monthly payments

For tenants moving home in Hong Kong, the deposit can be a significant initial expense alongside advance rent and moving costs. Rently’s deposit instalment service addresses that timing problem by paying the full security deposit directly to the landlord after an application is approved. The tenant then repays the deposit over time, with a service fee.

The arrangement allows tenants to spread rental deposit payments while retaining more cash at the start of a tenancy. It does not remove the deposit obligation or reduce the amount owed. Eligibility checks apply, and charges depend on the deposit amount and tenancy length. Paying by credit card also attracts an additional processing fee.

For landlords, the payment process remains familiar: the agreed deposit arrives by bank transfer. They do not need to register with Rently or accept instalments themselves. This structure separates a tenant’s repayment schedule from the landlord’s receipt of the deposit, making the service relevant to existing rental arrangements.

Earning miles by paying rent with FPS

Rently also offers a rewards service for monthly rent payments. Hong Kong tenants can pay rent through FPS and earn HeyMax Max Miles, providing a route to rental rewards without needing a credit card. Rently transfers the rent to the landlord’s bank account according to the confirmed payment schedule.

The distinction matters for tenants who already use bank transfers for rent. Through a participating service, that payment method can support rewards accumulation rather than requiring a switch to card spending. FPS plans carry service fees and different earning rates, so the practical value depends on the chosen plan and how the tenant uses the miles.

Paying rent with a credit card

Tenants can alternatively pay rent with a credit card through Rently and earn Max Miles. Depending on the issuer’s eligibility rules, transaction exclusions and reward limits, they may also receive their card’s own miles, points or cashback. Additional card rewards are conditional, rather than guaranteed.

The landlord receives a bank transfer and does not need to handle credit card payments. For tenants comparing credit card rent payments with FPS, the relevant calculation is the total fee against the rewards available through each route. The higher earning option will not necessarily offer the better overall value.

    A Hong Kong partnership opportunity

For investors and potential partners, the broader proposition extends across several stages of renting: funding the initial deposit, handling recurring payments and connecting those payments with loyalty programmes. These touchpoints create potential areas for collaboration with estate agencies, property managers, relocation providers and rewards businesses.

Such partnerships could help rental payment services reach tenants when they sign a lease or prepare to move. Their long term potential will depend on customer demand, reliable payments, risk management and the economics of serving each market. Regional operating experience provides context, but local execution remains central to building a sustainable Hong Kong business.

Applicants provide identity and tenancy information for review. For prospective distribution partners, this makes the application experience, clear fee disclosure and dependable landlord payments important considerations alongside any headline rewards offering.

Rently’s debt raise brings renewed attention to that model. For Hong Kong’s rental ecosystem, the question is how flexible payment arrangements and rewards can become useful additions to established leasing practices. Further information about the platform’s local services is available through Rently Hong Kong.
