Tencent Cloud has been selected to join the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s (HKMA) newly formed Agentic Finance Expert Group.
The group supports Project SAGE, which the HKMA launched on 2 November at Hong Kong Fintech Week 2026 to explore practical applications of agentic finance while establishing appropriate governance frameworks.
Tencent Cloud will focus on interoperability standards, drawing on its experience deploying its WorkBuddy AI agent in financial services.
Tencent Cloud to focus on interoperability standards
Project SAGE, short for Securing Agentic Finance with Governance and Enablement, covers four areas: market development and use case exploration, agent identity, interoperability standards, and legal and regulatory frameworks.
Tencent Cloud will help explore how AI agents across different institutions and platforms can securely identify one another, communicate instructions and exchange data.
The company also highlighted the need to address risks involving agent identity verification, accountability and system security.

“Common standards and protocols can help reduce duplicate integration efforts and mitigate risks associated with interactions between systems, providing a critical foundation for the large-scale adoption of Agentic Finance,”
said Liming Hu, Vice President of Tencent Cloud.
Hu added that Tencent Cloud would contribute its experience with WorkBuddy to industry discussions on agentic finance standards in Hong Kong.
WorkBuddy introduces investment research capabilities
Tencent Cloud also showcased new investment research capabilities for WorkBuddy International Edition at Hong Kong Fintech Week, alongside its eKYC, risk control and marketing cloud solutions.
Launched internationally on 28 May 2026, WorkBuddy is a desktop AI agent that uses natural language prompts to gather information, execute tasks and generate reports.
Its new investment research capabilities support company research, portfolio assessments using user-provided information and stock screening based on specified criteria.
For example, users can instruct WorkBuddy to analyse 12 quarters of Tencent Holdings’ financial results, including revenue, profit margins and growth drivers.
The tool can retrieve financial reports, analyse performance trends and generate preliminary research reports while retaining references to original sources. Users can also ask follow-up questions about specific figures and calculations.
WorkBuddy follows a human-in-the-loop approach, with AI handling data collection and analysis while professionals retain responsibility for research judgement and investment decisions.
The company plans to expand WorkBuddy’s capabilities across more financial services applications.
