Cyberport has signed a MoU with Telkom University (Tel-U), an Indonesian private technology university, and its innovation hub, Bandung Techno Park to deepen innovation and technology collaboration between Hong Kong and Indonesia.

The partnership focuses on technology transfer, start-up mentorship and access to global markets, with an emphasis on two-way expansion.

It aims to accelerate the entry of technology solutions from Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland into ASEAN markets under the Belt and Road Initiative, while supporting high-potential Indonesian start-ups seeking opportunities in Hong Kong.

The collaboration will prioritise projects in AI, Web3, smart city solutions, e-farming and digital creative industries.

Tel-U and Bandung Techno Park will act as a soft-landing partner for Cyberport companies entering Indonesia, while Cyberport will provide Indonesian start-ups with access to investors and partners in the Chinese Mainland and international markets.

Simon Chan, Chairman of Cyberport, stated,

“As Cyberport actively serves as a ‘super-connector’ and ‘super value-adder’ connecting Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the world, this partnership with Telkom University exemplifies our international two-way platform to advance innovation and entrepreneurship across borders by linking Hong Kong and Chinese Mainland start-ups with high-potential markets in ASEAN along the Belt and Road Initiative and facilitating ASEAN companies to tap the high-growth markets on the Mainland.”

The initiative supports Indonesia’s Asta Cita 2045 vision for digital talent development and innovation-driven growth, while aligning with Hong Kong’s position as a regional connector.

The MoU outlines joint efforts to support companies from both ecosystems.

These include guiding Indonesian tech firms to use Cyberport as a platform for entering Hong Kong’s sectors such as AI, fintech, blockchain and smart city technologies; providing proof-of-concept and pilot opportunities in Indonesia for Cyberport companies; connecting Cyberport start-ups with Tel-U’s partnership networks for business and investment access; and supporting high-calibre Indonesian companies seeking expansion into Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.

Cyberport reports that more than 330 incubated companies have expanded into over 35 overseas markets, with founders representing 27 countries and regions.

Over 80 Cyberport companies have entered ASEAN markets, including Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, and more than 30 have expanded into the Middle East.
