Hong Kong Fintech Week 2023: What to Expect and Who to Meet

Hong Kong Fintech Week is returning this year from October 30 to November 05, 2023, promising a bigger than ever conference with exciting announcements, a showcase of Hong Kong’s most exciting fintech innovations and line-up of top experts and decision-makers.

This year’s event, themed “Fintech Redefined”, will focus on the industry’s paradigm shift to a new era in the fintech ecosystem where new models, rules and value creation will emerge.

The event, organized by the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) and Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), and co-organized by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Insurance Authority (IA), is expected to bring together more than 30,000 attendees and garner over 5 million online views from more than 90 economies who will all gather to hear about the latest developments in fintech and explore opportunities for collaboration and growth.

Main conference themes and speakers

The 2023 edition of Hong Kong Fintech Week will see over 300 distinguished speakers and 540 exhibitors joining the main physical conference taking place on November 02 and 03 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

These global leaders and world-leading fintech innovations will explore the future development of fintech through six main themes:

  • Global regulations and focuses such as sustainable and green finance;
  • Funding and venture capital (VC) as well as family office investments;
  • Exploring the realms of artificial intelligence (AI), Web3 and emerging frontiers;
  • Unveiling the latest opportunities within the dynamic Greater Bay Area;
  • Hong Kong’s innovation journey; and
  • Business showcases.

Speakers at the main conference will include Hong Kong government officials and regulators like Chief Executive, John Lee; Financial Secretary, Paul Chan; Chief Executive of the HKMA, Eddie Yue; and CEO of the SFC, Julia Leung.

Mainland government officials and regulators will also be taking the stage and representing agencies and organizations including the Shenzhen Municipal Financial Regulatory Bureau, the Guangzhou Municipal Local Financial Supervision and Administration, and the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Finally, industry leaders such as Brian Armstrong, Co-Founder and CEO of Coinbase; Xiao Feng, Chairman of Wanxiang Blockchain and HashKey Group; Forest Lin, Corporate Vice President of Tencent, Head of Tencent Financial Technology; and Henry Ma, Vice President and Chief Information Officer of WeBank, will be covering some of the industry biggest trends and developments including payment innovation, Web3, digital assets, wealthtech, digital banking, embedded finance, and more.

Metaverse experiences, dedicated spaces, startup showcases and more

In addition to keynotes, panel discussions and thematic sessions, this year’s conference will feature various metaverse and Web3 experiences designed to present cutting-edge technologies under immersive and educational engagements.

There will also be dedicated spaces such as the Investor Lounge, Venture Stage, workshops and events specifically designed for investors.

Additionally, InvestHK, the government agency facilitating direct investments into Hong Kong, will introduce the Women in Tech Lounge, a unique space with special workshops, panels, and networking events tailored to empower and connect women in the tech industry.

The agency will further be hosting the grand finale of the Global Scaleup Competition, a startup competition designed to identify and showcase promising fintech companies from around the world.

During the grand finale, participants of the event will get to see the 13 finalists pitch their solutions live and compete for the coveted title of “pitch winner” across fintech, AI and Web3 categories.

The Global Scaleup Competition is part of the broader Global Fast Track 2023 program, which aims to foster connections between fintech firms, corporate clients, investors, and industry partners. This year, the program received a new record of 500+ applications from 63 economies worldwide.

Besides the 2023 Hong Kong Fintech Week main conference, the 2023 festival will include a series of events throughout the months of October and November across the city of Hong Kong.
