TenPay Global, the cross-border payment platform under Tencent, and Mastercard signed a memorandum of understanding during the Hong Kong Fintech Week 2026. The TenPay Global and Mastercard partnership intends to explore enhanced cross-border payment interoperability and new opportunities in agentic payments.
The collaboration could provide international users with more ways to pay using familiar digital wallets and issuer apps at QR-enabled merchants in the Chinese mainland. It could also provide merchants with opportunities to serve international customers.
The partnership builds on Mastercard’s payment facilitation initiatives in the Chinese mainland and Mastercard Wallet Pay, a set of solutions designed for interoperability and innovation across digital wallets and card-based payments.
Both parties will fuse their capabilities in payment processing, risk management, fraud prevention, and currency conversion while engaging with digital wallet providers, financial institutions and payment service providers to expand participation in cross-border QR payments.
The TenPay Global and Mastercard partnership will also look into giving more overseas senders a way to transfer money into the Weixin ecosystem.
