Naver has announced measures following an incident in which around 15,000 users’ activity histories on Knowledge iN were exposed due to an error in its People Information Service.

According to industry sources cited by The Chosun Daily, the issue arose when a Knowledge iN profile link was incorrectly connected to Naver’s People Information Service.

This error led to the public exposure of 15,067 users’ activity records from 3 p.m. on 3 February.

Naver disabled the feature at 10:20 p.m. on 4 February and notified all affected users by text and email.

Users were also able to check whether their information had been exposed by contacting the relevant department.

To prevent similar incidents, Naver launched a new “My Data Management Tool” page.

The Privacy Center allows users to request a suspension of personal information processing and withdraw consent for third-party provision.

Users can view what information each service collects and how it processes it via the Usage Status tab.

The Rights Protection Center handles reports of personality rights violations, such as defamation or privacy breaches caused by content written by others. It also processes requests to remove exposed content.

Posts authored by users themselves are excluded. Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon reported the incident to the Personal Information Protection Commission and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.
