Airwallex, a global payments and financial platform, has been granted a license by the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong to provide asset management services through its subsidiary, Airwallex Capital.
According to Airwallex, this makes the company the first global payments group to receive this type of license in Hong Kong.
The firm plans to launch Airwallex Yield, a service that allows businesses to earn returns on multi-currency funds, in early 2025.
Airwallex Yield will offer businesses a way to invest their funds in money market funds without a minimum lock-up period, providing flexibility and potentially higher returns.
The service has already seen success in Australia, where it has attracted over AU$100 million in funds under management since its launch in November 2023.
Airwallex Capital Hong Kong Limited is licensed to provide Type 4 (advising on securities) and Type 9 (asset management) regulated activities.
Businesses interested in Airwallex Yield can join a waitlist for more information ahead of the service’s Hong Kong launch next year.

Arnold Chan, APAC General Manager, Airwallex said,
“Airwallex is proud to have received a licence for asset management services in Hong Kong, via Airwallex Capital. This makes Airwallex the first global payments group to obtain such a licence in Hong Kong.
This milestone allows us to prepare the launch of Airwallex Yield in Hong Kong, which will help customers earn a return on multi-currency funds. We remain committed to innovation and providing cutting-edge financial solutions.”
