Octopus Integrates UnionPay, AlipayHK, and Alipay for Taxi QR Payments in Hong Kong
by Fintech News Hong Kong January 15, 2024Octopus has announced the expansion of its QR payment services for taxis in Hong Kong.
Starting from 25 January, approximately 21,000 taxi drivers in the region will be able to accept QR code payments from UnionPay, AlipayHK, and Alipay through the Octopus App for Business and Octopus Mobile POS.
Taxi drivers can enter the payment amount into the updated Octopus App for Business, allowing passengers to make payments either by tapping their Octopus card or scanning a QR code on the paired Octopus Mobile POS.
In addition, Octopus is initiating a referral program to encourage more taxi drivers to join the Octopus platform. From 11 January to 31 March 2024, drivers who successfully refer colleagues to use the Octopus App for Business will receive a HK$100 reward for each new referral.
To further support this expansion, Octopus will continue to waive transaction fees for taxi drivers until the end of 2025. New taxi drivers registering for the service will also receive complimentary Octopus Mobile POS devices and enjoy waived transaction fees.
